Thank you for visiting the Open Apple podcast! Please check out our latest episode [3] and subscribe to future episodes in iTunes [4]!

Steve Weyhrich [5]This month in Open Apple, Mike and Ken chat with Apple II historian Steve Weyhrich about strategies and philosophies for scanning, preserving, and publishing the story of the Apple II. Hardware hacks for the Apple IIc and expansion cards making their KansasFest debut caught our attention this month, as did the American Humanist Association recognizing Steve Wozniak, who earned a musical tribute from Jonathan Mann. Watches, shirts, boxes, and Risk topped our eBay auctions, while games ran the gamut from text adventures to Xbox spiritual successors to IIGS classics, with a few decorative posters thrown in for good measure. In addition to Dr. Steve, former KansasFest logo designer Chris Lackey [6] makes not one but TWO guest appearances this month!

Congratulations to Jeremy Rand, who correctly named the game as Out of this World! He wins a $25 discount off KansasFest 2011 registration [7] or a free KansasFest shirt [8]. Next month's winner will earn a 20% or $50 discount off one ReactiveMicro.com [9] order.

Nice work again guys.

Re: Inform 7, while it is a new and more accessible way to program IF, when you compile your game in I7, behind the scenes, it all becomes Inform 6 code anyway (which you never have to see). And Inform 7 can still turn out regular Z-code games, though you really limit your gamesize and features that way.

I also bought Aaron Reed's book and I think it's a much better starting point for programming I7 than using the language's built-in docs. I'm working on my first I7 game atm.

Re: John Romero, have you seen any of his Apple II reunion (1998) video(s)? In one he talks to Nasir Gebelli, who co-founded Sirius Software and pioneered (I believe) the page-flipping animation technique on the Apple.
